Mandala art

Last week we were doing mandala art with nature, we got our materials from the nature trail and Putikitiki. We had 5 minutes to get our things and then we trampled up the nature trail and got some more things. Then we went into the class and made our art. you could be in buddies but I did not want to.
This is my mandala art.

Compost

Compost

At HES we have compost bins and enviro agents so we can throw away any food scraps and bread but no meat or anything else. There are compost bins outside every class and then at the end of each day their are enviro agents that go round each class and pick up their compost bins take it down to the garden and put in it the huge compost bin where it breaks down into fertiliser then they use it in the garden.

Terrarium writing

Terrarium

Our class has been creating terrariums. You had to bring a plastic bottle, like a pump bottle or a sprite bottle or something like that. We cut the bottle in half so their was a cup sort of thing. Their was a selection of seeds and then we planted them them in our plastic cup things. We used dirt from the garden. Now they have grown, we will soon be planting them.

Making breakfast

I reached out grabbing the smooth plastic bag. The bag is as thin as a piece of paper, I clutch it tight then holding the soft candy-floss like white bread.  I walk towards the shiny silver toaster, however I stumble and trip and then fall on a dirty pink trike then accidentally losing my hand then dropping the piece of bread. I think well 3 second rule so I bend over to find the dogs got to it first. spit flies around the room, "yuck".

Ears pears

As my heart beats violently I clench my sweaty palms. I look around and my eyes ache. Gazing at the stuff that has just came in, shuffling back into the seat it creaks like a wooden door shutting in a haunted house. Its frog skin coloured stool is sort of uncomfortable . The lady's earrings reflect in the 1 o'clock sun. I can just make out what she is saying because of the background noise of the customers. She shifts her  wrinkled hand towards my ear. Her damp cold hand tickles against my pale skin. The silver earings tinker in the golden cylinder. She counts down then next second once again I am sitting on the frog coloured seat still gazing at the stuff that was in front of me. However she is counting down for the second ear.

Alarm clock

Is it crucial that you wake up one time, well here is the deal of the century. A loud alarm clock is on your way. And wait there's more. It moves she has got a great sense of humor, she's sassy as well and wakes you up on the dot say bye bye to your
silent little friend.

Daily 5 - Weather and natural disasters

This week we are learning about the weather and natural disasters I did a wordle of some words that connect to the weather and natural disasters.
Screenshot 2016-11-09 at 2.30.41 PM.png

This is some of my writing about the weather

The water cycle is very important to humans animals and plants and more, they also count on the weather. A tornado can do serious damage so do hurricanes. They both are usually in a super storm. They use satellites to find out the weather, they put it out in space and then it sends pictures to earth. So If  you need sunscreen or blankets you can get it on time.some times their can be a tornado in the ocean it picks up water and little pebbles. Some scientists study clouds. Did you know their are different names for clouds to.

Paint brush

A paint brush is a tool mostly found in a shop, house and school, artists use them to paint delightful pictures, kids use them at school. Babies paint random pictures that's usually a big mess. A paint brush is made out of an wooden handle a metal part that connects the handle to the bristles to the handle. You use it by taking the handle and putting the bristles into the paint then drawing with it.

Silhouette art

File_000.jpeg

In class we have been doing silhouette art. We got our inspiration from the Olympic games in Rio 2016. I did my art of someone doing shot put. My colour choice was purple, and really really dark blue that matches the theme of the purple. First we drew the person then we drew the lines. We showed it to the teacher and if it matches the criteria we were aloud to start colouring with pastels.

Book Review

Library Book Review Template

Introduce the book:
Title: How to look for a lost dog
Author: Ann M Martin who has also written the ‘Babysitters Club’ series which sold 170 million copies worldwide.
Fiction but could be based on a true story
Setting: Set in Hatford, America

Tell about the book but don’t give away the ending:

The book is about a girl called Rose and trying to find her best dog Rain after the super storm Susan. Rose is about 8 and she has tantrums all the time. She has a dog called Rain who Rose has a big connection to. Rose’s dad Wesley Harward let Rain outside in the super storm without her collar to go for a wee and Rain never came back.

Tell about your favourite part of the book or make a connection:

My favourite part was when Rain jumps out of Rose’s uncles car and follows Rose into class, but Rose did not realise and everyone in Rose’s class meets Rain

Give a recommendation:

I recommend this book ‘How to look for a lost dog” a 4.5 star rating. I love this book because it has good characters and the characters have good personalities. I think this book would suit kids aged around 10-12 years. If you like good adventure books and if you are a good reader you will love this book.

Similes

Similes

Similes are a sentence with "as" or "like" like the ones shown above. They are used to describe some thing better.  So you get a sentence and find out a similarity of a word.  like, my face                                                   was as red as a freshly picked cherry.  Here are my similes.

My throat was as dry as my Dad giving jokes.
My face was as red as a strawberry.
I was burning like a pan cooking sausages on MAX temp.
I was as loud as a wolf howling on a full moon standing on a cliff.
My eyes were like a glowing star in the pitch black sky.
Our torch was as bright as the full moon reflecting off the salty sea.
I was as tired as a sloth hanging from a tree in the rain forest.

Droplets poem

Droplets

  Freezing
     Liquid pouring
      down, eager to burst.
Hitting the leaves as they go.
The impact turns dirt into mud
leaves turn into mush, Destroying the
garden bed and all the insects that live near.
